AUGUST 25, 2008 PRESS RELEASE PHILANTHRO PRODUCTIONS RETURNS TO BOULEVARD3 WITH BENEFIT PARTY FOR MICROLENDING LEADER KIVA.ORG Gen Y Partygoers will Fund Microlending Projects during September 19th Event LOS ANGELES, CA (August 25, 2008) – Philanthro Productions, a non-profit organization that creates unique opportunities for young adults to engage in charitable giving, today announced RIPPLE: How Big is Your Effect? The event will benefit Kiva.org, an organization whose mission is to broker loans to aspiring entrepreneurs in developing countries and help alleviate poverty through the power of one-to-one connections over the web. Philanthro will host the benefit party at Peter Famulari’s Boulevard3 in Hollywood, Calif. on Friday, September 19. “RIPPLE will engage our young adult patrons in a new and exciting way,” said Anneke Jong, 24, Philanthro’s Co-President. “Not only does Kiva’s transparent, progressive model resonate with our patrons, but it allows us to put the power of change in their hands. It’s a true exercise in creating a meaningful connection for the Gen Y set in terms of what their contributions are making possible.” The default rate on Kiva.org’s loans is less than 5%. Repaid loans from the evening’s proceeds will eventually be used to fund Kiva.org’s ongoing operations, but not until Philanthro updates RIPPLE attendees on the success of the entrepreneurs who are enabled to start businesses by the generosity of partygoers on September 19. Philanthro returns to the lavish Boulevard3 after a successful event there on June 20 benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The June 20 event drove Philanthro’s cash donations to partner charities to well over $60,000 in its first 16 months of operations. “One hundred percent of event proceeds are going to fund Kiva.org,” said Matt Lew, 26, Philanthro’s CFO. “This event represents a milestone for Philanthro, as it is the first time that our organization will fully fund all event production and development costs before doors open. It is a model that we look to sustain during future events.” The September 19 event will feature surprise performances, giveaways, raffle prizes and more. Doors open at 9 pm; ages 21+ only.
